How to equip the weapon i bought on Fable for Xbox?

I just started playing Fable for the first time with my new xbox and i turned into an adult recently and now i went to buy a sword so, i sold the one i had before and bought a more powerful one. So all i have at the moment is a stick and a giant iron sword but for some reason i can only use the stick and not the sword, i how can i switch that so i can use the sword
