In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, how do I equip abilities like high jump?

I'm reading a walkthrough but it didn't mention how to equip abilities like these but it talked about the high jump ability and said "don't forget to equip it." How do I do that? I think I may have tried but was probably doing something wrong because it wouldn't let me do anything.
