Sims 3 late night arrested question?

my sim has criminal career and during his job he got arrested. When he got arrested it couldnt let me click anything so i saved. relogged in the game and when i opened my file it tells me to choose a new household or create new sims.... am i supposed to wait or is my sims locked forever
